Open Sky – CNSAS

Open Sky. Revisiting public space* is the name of a series of digital montages, linking together surveillance images from the Securitate archive, taken by secret police photographers in Bucharest between 1950s – 1980s with screen shots of Google Maps/Street View of the current location of the places where those snapshots were taken. By putting together two formulas of observation/surveillance, we raise the question: how is our impression of the old surveillance images transformed when they are seen through the lens of today’s evolved technologies?*Project realized as a result of a collaboration between CNSAS, UNARTE and MNAC in 2012
